Clarion Alley

So, a few days back Em and I were at the SFMOMA store (huge 20% off sale, ya know?), and on a tip from a friend we picked up the really beautiful Painting the Towns: Murals of California. Inside, there was a neat spread on “Clarion Alley”, which was apparently in the Mission district (where we live), but which I’d somehow never heard of nor seen.

Well, this weekend while walking along Valencia, past an alley that we must have passed hundreds of times (but never really looked at closely before), I happened to notice the cool mural art near the entrance to the alley. Reading a book on murals will sensitize you, ya know? Anyhow, I went on to notice that pretty much the ENTIRE alley was covered in murals, and it quickly dawned on me that I had finally found Clarion Alley. Nice!

So, I took some pics – see for yourself, since they’re up in the (somewhat re-organized) Online Gallery.

Upon initial viewing the pics gave me a mild desire to play *space invaders* (who’s game was that?); followed quickly by an intense desire to play *duck hunt*. After further investigation I wanted instead to play either *eden escapers* or the more tantilizing *peeping tommy gun*.

You think that later mural was inspired by *Mezanine*?
