Clarion Alley

Monday, May 12th, 2003

So, a few days back Em and I were at the SFMOMA store (huge 20% off sale, ya know?), and on a tip from a friend we picked up the really beautiful Painting the Towns: Murals of California. Inside, there was a neat spread on “Clarion Alley”, which was apparently in the Mission district (where we live), but which I’d somehow never heard of nor seen.

Well, this weekend while walking along Valencia, past an alley that we must have passed hundreds of times (but never really looked at closely before), I happened to notice the cool mural art near the entrance to the alley. Reading a book on murals will sensitize you, ya know? Anyhow, I went on to notice that pretty much the ENTIRE alley was covered in murals, and it quickly dawned on me that I had finally found Clarion Alley. Nice!

So, I took some pics - see for yourself, since they’re up in the (somewhat re-organized) Online Gallery.

Whew. Once again, many days of not posting… What have I been up to lately? Let’s see…

I’m working on a new firewall and bandwidth management setup for my Home LAN (new blog topic to arrive soon, from the Department of Home LAN Security - ouch). Em thinks I’m disturbed because I told her our house will soon have two separate DMZs. Phooey.

In the movie word, I saw X2 with Sebastian at Metreon, which was strictly mediocre. As expected. Really just an appetizer for the glorious seven-course visual feast that will (I hope) be The Matrix Reloaded, which we’re seeing on May 20th as part of the second-ever Man Night outing. Oh, YEAH.

Friday night Em and I saw Better Luck Tomorrow, which was really very good. As expected.

Saturday saw some errands on Valencia (stumbled upon Clarion Alley - see next post), and Throwing Muses at Slim’s - Live Music, which was great. As expected. Although it paled in comparison to seeing Kristin at the Exile Follies show a few months back. I just prefer acoustic sets, you know?

Yesterday was Mother’s Day - I called Mom. Oh, and Em and I went for a great bike ride through Golden Gate Park with Alison and Mike. Sat on the beach for a bit, and sat by a cute duck-and-turtle pond in the park… A good ratio of sitting to riding. :)
Tonight I leave for Seattle, to do some on-site work for a client up there. Coming back Friday night. I get to stay in the very-cool Ace Hotel, which is apparently in a neat neighborhood, so it might even be (a little) fun. In any case, it easily beats St. Peters, Missouri.
