Disc golfing in Golden Gate Park with Agent Dan.
Here I sit (at Metreon), about a week late wishing myself a Happy Birthday. I’ll forgive myself this time. My trusty Venti Decaf Drip No Room is by my side (and In Mah Belly!), keeping me warm. Going to meet Em and Agent Dan (yes, he’s visiting SF) in a few minutes, and had a whole 7 minutes to kill, so I figured I’d take six minutes (I’m typing with my thumbs, people) to thank everyone who called, sent a card, sent an e-mail, sent a text message, and/or wrote on my Facebook wall. Really feeling the love this year! So many ways to keep in touch, and I’m still pretty bad at it. My apologies for not responding sooner, and I promise to get individual replies going soon. I’ve been crazy busy lately, and I’m hoping this long weekend will let me get caught up a bit. One year older, and maybe getting a teeny tiny bit better at keeping in touch…?
One of my favorite buildings in this city…
Replica statue of David at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas
The Las Vegas version of Piazza San Marco.
Ava riding a pony at the Bernal Heights annual “Fiesta On The Hill”. Whee!
Just as lovely as they were on the playa… This photo of one is abstract.
We’re at a lovely wedding in Santa Rosa Sebastopol, about to eat some delicious cupcakes! YUM!!
Seeing an Oakland band in Montana!
Em, Rob, and Richard, getting on the ferris wheel at TIMF. It goes FAST!
[Update: Note to Self. If you post via flickr2blog, then rotate the photo on flickr, that (grrr) breaks the img src link, and you have to come back and manually edit the link in the blog post to fix it. :)]
I’m busy. I’m tired. It’s one of those nights when I’m up late, with a ton of work/personal stuff to do, and I really shouldn’t even be taking this quick break to post to my blog, BUT… I can’t go on another minute without urging everyone in the entire world (um, starting with the two or three people who sometimes read this blog) to go watch this YouTube video. You want cheese? You want an utterly unwatchable, hideously formulaic television show? You want a fistful of the cheesiest, most formulaic moments from that show, jammed together into one insane symphony of cheesy hack writing/acting/directing? Then go and watch. But, you must swear never to speak of this that you have seen. Swear by my sword! ![]()
Quick updates, before I forget:
1. The Chantey Sing aboard Balclutha was HUGE fun. It’s great that you can live in San Francisco for nearly 10 years, and yet still keep discovering things this cool. Or else it means we don’t get out enough. ![]()
We sang Barret’s Privateers, which I haven’t done since I don’t know when, and that’s a blast. My singing (if I can call it that) hurts people, it’s true, but as one of only two Canadians I knew to be present, I felt I just had to represent. Em and I really wished Arnon had been there - dude woulda been in his ZONE, yo.
2. We haven’t had too many celebrity sightings since moving out to San Francisco - it’s not Los Angeles, people. But last night at Buena Vista, we saw Pat Sajak out drinking with his peeps. Now that I’ve seen both Bob Barker and Pat Sajak in person, I guess I only need to shake hands with Regis for the trifecta. I’ll keep y’all posted.
My PDA/camera/phone/thingy takes _awful_ pictures - sorry! But it’s a happy birthday anyway!!
Kevin’s birthday! Sea chanteys aboard Balclutha, followed by Irish Coffees at Buena Vista CafĂ©. Look, it’s Tom P!!
About to catch my hometown boy Rufus. A Fine Frenzy opened, and was good. Sean Lennon was better than expected, and funny, too - he quoted Real Genius. Say it wth me: It was hot, and I was hungry.
A splendid end to the work week. Even tastier than it looks. Apricot brandy, noyaux, lager, and ginger beer. Must be 21 years or older to consume, or to read about in a blog post.
As we drove over the hills of San Francisco, Eddy mentioned Bullitt, and the so-very-famous chase scene therein. I hadn’t actually seen the film since I was a kid, and it occurred to me that now that I actually lived in San Francisco, it’d be cool to watch it again, since I might recognize some of the locations.
Thanks to the wonders of the internets, most of my work has already been done for me. It turns out that someone named Mike Haeg used Google’s My Maps feature to create an annotated map of the entire chase sequence in Bullitt. There’s also a conveniently embedded YouTube viewer, so you can watch the scene and play with the map (if you open it in another window) at the same time. The best part, at least for me, is that it turns out that the chase starts right around the corner from where we live, in Bernal Heights! While the chase eventually jumps to different locations all over the city and beyond (artistic license), it begins with the cars heading west along Army (now Cesar Chavez) Street, u-turning at Precita, and then driving up York to Peralta. By some bizarre coincidence, I travelled almost the exact same route *on my bicycle* two days ago, just a day before I re-discovered this scene. And for the record, I’d definitely rather drive a Mustang up York than a bicycle - I had to stop twice to catch my breath, and it’s a *tiny* block. But that’s the point, since I’m trying to build up my cycling muscles for the playa. ![]()
